Research at Umeå University in Sweden suggests that estrogen therapy can bring about a more desirable distribution of body fat in women who have gone through menopause. According to the molecular biologist at Umeå University, Therese Andersson, such women tend to develop cellulites, and accumulation of fat around the liver increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Declining levels of the female hormone estrogen can be a principle cause of this change in body fat distribution. Studies revealed that an enzyme that activates a stress hormone helps to deliver beneficial effects on fat distribution in estrogen therapy after menopause.
